SUSTAIN ACTIONS VISIT TO PMW ADVOCATES
On June 27, 2025, Sustain Actions paid a courtesy call to PMW Advocates. The purpose of the meeting was to agree on a work plan for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed on April 4, 2025.
Mr. Vitalis Chokera, Chairperson of Sustain Actions, provided a brief overview of the projects the organization has undertaken, as well as those they plan to launch, with a focus on social welfare, legal consultancy, and environmental sustainability. He emphasized their keen interest not only to empower the student community at Chuka but also to expand their engagement into the surrounding community and beyond. To amplify their impact, he outlined Sustain Actions’ vision to transition from a Community-Based Organization (CBO) into a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), enabling national outreach.
Cornelius Gateri and Mary Goretti, members of Sustain Action, described the initiatives that the CBO has implemented since registering in December 2024. They highlighted a pad drive in partnership with Amnesty International’s Chuka Chapter and the establishment of an operational pad bank at Chuka University. They also introduced My Sister’s Keeper, a space designed to foster open, wholesome conversations among girls on campus about issues that affect them. Additionally, they discussed their involvement with the United Nations Millennium Development Goals through a collaboration with Hanze University (Netherlands), which includes developing an app to help survivors of sexual and gender-based violence report abuse and access psychosocial support.
Sustain Actions also hopes to form partnerships with like-minded organizations, expand their presence across social media platforms, and lend their voice to advocacy efforts in their focus areas through online publications. Members emphasized the importance of implementing the MoU, noting PMW Advocates’ active interest in Corporate Social Responsibility, which makes them an ideal partner for collaboration.
Our Managing Partner, Prof. Musili Wambua, expressed full support for Sustain Actions’ initiatives and emphasized the importance of careful planning to achieve their objectives. He proposed forming a joint implementation team, including members from both PMW Advocates and Sustain Actions, and challenged the group to incorporate alternative dispute resolution projects into their programming.
PMW Advocates are truly inspired by the work of Sustain Actions and pledge their ongoing support and commitment to the organization’s activities and projects.
